AUSTIN, Texas —
A house that got stuck in the middle of a south Austin neighborhood is now on the move.
According to the Austin Mobility Department, workers from a company called Austin Home Movers tried to move the duplex home from one lot to another on East Live Oak Street and got it stuck.
The house was too wide to fit through the residential street. It mangled cable lines, hit a telephone pole, and damaged several trees and yard plants.
Austin Home Movers did not have the permit required to move the house through City of Austin streets, and the company had to work to get the right permission.
After getting the permit, the company missed its deadline to move the house overnight on Wednesday and had to try again Thursday.
After 10 o’clock, crews worked to get the house moving once again.
Law enforcement told CBS Austin that the house was too low to clear the guardrails. For this reason, crews had to bring in equipment to raise it up.
The house’s final destination is Lockhart.
